Good to know

Feet and inches: for heights and room sizes, divide by 12 and keep the remainder. 70 ÷ 12 = 5 remainder 10, so 70 inches is 5 ft 10 in (5.833 ft). 100 inches is 8 ft 4 in.

Decimal feet: plans, estimating apps and surveyors use tenths of a foot rather than inches. Each inch is 0.0833 ft, so 6 in = 0.5 ft, 3 in = 0.25 ft and 9 in = 0.75 ft; a wall 10 ft 9 in long is 10.75 ft when you multiply it out for square footage.

To go one step further, 36 inches make a yard and 63,360 inches make a mile.
