How to convert military time

From 0000 to 1159 the hours are the same as the morning hours: 0730 is 7:30 AM, and 0000 is midnight (12:00 AM). From 1300 to 2359, subtract 12 from the hour for the PM time: 1430 − 1200 = 2:30 PM, 2100 is 9:00 PM. 1200 is noon.

To go the other way, morning times keep their hour with a leading zero (9:15 AM = 0915), and for PM times add 12 to the hour (4:45 PM = 1645). 12:xx AM becomes 00xx.

Writing and saying it

Military time is written as four digits with no colon or AM/PM, often followed by "hours". It is read digit pairs at a time: 0730 is "zero seven thirty", 1400 is "fourteen hundred", 2145 is "twenty-one forty-five". Midnight is usually written 0000 for the start of a day; some schedules use 2400 for the end of one, which is the same moment.
