Kilobytes to Megabytes (KB to MB)
In SI decimal units a kilobyte is 1,000 bytes and a megabyte 1,000,000 bytes, so divide KB by 1,000: 750 KB is 0.75 MB. Binary sizes (IEC 80000-13, as documented by NIST) use 1 MiB = 1,024 KiB, which is what Windows shows when it says 'KB'. This converter gives the decimal SI answer; the binary one follows below.
Formula
MB = KB ÷ 1,000 (binary: MiB = KiB ÷ 1,024)
Example: 100 kilobytes = 0.1 megabytes.

Good to know
Binary answer: divide by 1,024. 512 KiB is 0.5 MiB, 1,024 KiB is exactly 1 MiB and 2,048 KiB is 2 MiB. At this step the two systems differ by 2.4%, so a 1,000 KB file is 0.977 MiB.
Upload limits: forms that say 'max 2 MB' may allow 2,000,000 bytes or 2,097,152 bytes. A 1,950 KB image passes either way; one listed at 2,040 KB in Windows (which is 2,088,960 bytes) is over a 2,000,000-byte limit. Compress to well under the cap if you're unsure.
Typical sizes: a compressed web photo is 100–500 KB (0.1–0.5 MB), a one-page PDF 50–300 KB and an email attachment limit is often 25 MB, which is 25,000 KB. The SI symbol is lowercase kB; KB with a capital K is a common informal spelling.
Frequently asked questions
How many KB are in 1 MB?
1,000 KB in decimal SI units; 1,024 KiB in 1 MiB in binary units.
How many MB is 500 KB?
500 KB is 0.5 MB (decimal), or 0.488 MiB in binary.
Is 1,024 KB 1 MB?
1,024 KiB is exactly 1 MiB (binary). In decimal units, 1,024 KB is 1.024 MB.
Which is bigger, KB or MB?
MB. A megabyte is 1,000 kilobytes, so a 900 KB file is smaller than a 1 MB file.
